Brian's wife Beverly
Beverly was a high school language arts teacher who, ironically, began to lose her words (along with names, math skills and executive functions) while her physical health also declined. By 2001, we knew that she would not be able to continue teaching, and in 2002 she received a diagnosis of probable Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. But over the course of 2003, it became apparent that the EOAD diagnosis was not a good fit for Bev. Her physical health continued to decline. And soon we recognized that she is affected in many systems and that autonomic dysfunctions predominated her condition, while her cognitive losses remained mild. We now believe that Bev's ultimate diagnosis may be Multiple System Atrophy.
